Privacy Policy

A client's personal information is collected in several ways during psychological consultation with Authentic You Psychology Group, including:

• When you make an inquiry, book an appointment, email the practice, phone the practice, fax the practice, engage with the practice on social media, complete documentation, engage in a psychological session, where you request a letter or report, where you complete an assessment or make an online booking;
• From third party service providers – if you are referred through an EAP / doctor / or other third party, they usually provide us with your contact information and other information relevant to the referral;
• When we receive enquiries through www.authenticyoupsychologygroup.com.au and when the website is otherwise accessed or used

A client’s personal information is gathered and used for the purpose of providing psychological services, which includes assessing, diagnosing and treating a client’s presenting issue.

This personal information is retained in order to document what happens during sessions, and enables the psychologist to provide a relevant and informed psychological service. The kind of personal and health information that Authentic You Psychology Group may collect will depend on who you are (e.g. a client or third-party service provider) and the nature of your connection with Authentic You Psychology Group. This information may include things like:

• your full name
• address
• email address
• date of birth
• Medicare details
• billing information
• general appointment information and other personal information.

It is important that you are aware that failure to provide Authentic You Psychology Group with all the information requested, means that we may not be able to deliver the psychological services that you have requested.

All personal information gathered by the psychologist during the provision of the psychological service will remain confidential except when:

1. It is subpoenaed by a court, or disclosure is otherwise required or authorised by law; or
2. Failure to disclose the information would in the reasonable belief of the psychologist, place you or another person at serious risk to life, health, or safety; or
3. Your prior approval has been obtained to

a) Provide a written report to another professional or agency. e.g., a GP or a lawyer; or

b) Discuss the material with another person, e.g., a parent, employer, health provider or third-party funder; or

c) Disclose the information in another way; or

4. You would reasonably expect your personal information to be disclosed to another professional or agency (e.g. your GP) and disclosure of your personal information to that third party is for a purpose which is directly related to the primary purpose for which your personal information was collected; or

5. When consulting with colleagues, or in the course of clinical supervision, your psychologist will be required to conceal your identity and any associated parties involved, and preserve your privacy at the utmost professional manner in accordance with the Psychology Board's Code of Conduct (2025). 

At any stage clients may request to see and correct the personal information about them kept on file. The psychologist may discuss the contents with them and/or give them a copy, subject to the exceptions in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

If satisfied that personal information is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete, reasonable steps will be taken in the circumstances to ensure that this information is corrected. All requests by clients for access to or correction of personal information held about them should be lodged with Authentic You Psychology Group. These requests will be responded to in writing within 10 business days, and an appointment will be made if necessary for clarification purposes.

If clients have a concern about the management of their personal information, they may inform Authentic You Psychology Group. Upon request they can obtain a copy of the Australian Privacy Principles, which describe their rights and how their personal information should be handled.

Ultimately, if clients wish to lodge a formal complaint about the use of, disclosure of, or access to, their personal information, they may do so with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner by phone on 1300 363 992, online at https://www.oaic.gov.au/privacy/privacy-complaints/lodge-a-privacy-complaint-with-us or by post to: Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, GPO Box 5288, Sydney, NSW 2001.

Authentic You Psychology Group takes all reasonable steps to protect personal information collected and secure it from misuse, loss and interference and from unauthorised access and modification.

From time to time, Authentic You Psychology Group may make amendments to this privacy policy. Any changes will be effective immediately upon the uploading of the revised privacy policy on www.authenticyoupsychologygroup.com.au.  By continuing to use the Authentic You Psychology Group’s website and/or the psychology service following any changes, you will be deemed to have agreed to such changes. If you do not agree with the terms of this privacy policy, as amended from time to time, in whole or part, you must terminate your use of the website and inform us immediately prior to any further receipt of our psychology services.
